Unravelling Thoughts
December 12, 2016
I've been feeling aimless for a while, skimming surfaces but never really diving in.
And it frustrates me because I think emotions and relationships play a big part in my works and I haven't been able to personally relate to this work yet.
It feels foreign, like meeting a stranger whom you've been communicating with online (in this case it's my thoughts) but totally uncomfortable meeting in reality. Haha.
Just now though while thinking about what the hell I should do with the piece, thinking about the different sections I have, I felt. It's like things are always there, present and available for you, we just need to observe and notice and feel.
While bringing in the chairs and bucket were purely for fun in the beginning, I'm starting to see what they bring to the piece, or in a different lens.
People falling.
Structures falling.
Structures falling.
People falling.

“The real damage is done by those millions who want to 'survive.' The honest men who just want to be left in peace. Those who don’t want their little lives disturbed by anything bigger than themselves. Those with no sides and no causes. Those who won’t take measure of their own strength, for fear of antagonizing their own weakness. Those who don’t like to make waves—or enemies. Those for whom freedom, honour, truth, and principles are only literature. Those who live small, mate small, die small. It’s the reductionist approach to life: if you keep it small, you’ll keep it under control. If you don’t make any noise, the bogeyman won’t find you. But it’s all an illusion, because they die too, those people who roll up their spirits into tiny little balls so as to be safe. Safe?! From what? Life is always on the edge of death; narrow streets lead to the same place as wide avenues, and a little candle burns itself out just like a flaming torch does. I choose my own way to burn.”
“It is such a splendid sunny day and I have to go.”

Itchy fingers and very excited.
Itchy fingers and very excited.
Who are you to me?

Noticing objects in space.
They affect space. They affect people. They affect movement.
They have a certain presence.
They are quiet listeners.
They are quiet observers.
Stacking, stacking stools.
Balancing, reaching, climbing.
Falling.
Relationship spectrum.
What are your trigger points?
When do your relationship develop, when does it dissolve?
When do things reach their limits, when do we desire more?
When do we feel alone, when do we feel suffocating?
When are we confused, when do we trust?
Raw. Roarrrrrrrrr.....

Why do we rehearse?

Dance for people, people for dance.
If so, how differently would rehearsal time be spent?
What I hope to see, what it is.
How do I acknowledge what it is but guide to what I am working towards?
Presence.
Time to let relationships reveal themselves.
Ring-a-ring o' roses,
A pocket full of posies,
A-tishoo! A-tishoo!
We all fall down.
Ring-a-round the rosie,
A pocket full of posies,
Ashes! Ashes!
We all fall down.
Ring-a-round the rosie,
A pocket full of posies,
Hush! Hush! Hush! Hush!
We've all tumbled down.
